In order to purchase licensed software, you must make your purchase in person with photo ID and proof of acceptance/admission, enrollment or employment at the University of Alberta. The MicroStore can only sell licensed software to its own students and staff. Students and staff of other institutions must make their purchases of licensed software at their home institutions. Also, student and staff licenses cannot be purchased, or paid for, by a department.

Licensed software is a bit different than regular software purchases. Let's say that you purchase a licensed copy of Microsoft Office. When you buy licensed software, unlike off the shelf software, you are required to fill out a form to complete your purchase and register you as the owner of the license. It takes five minutes, and you will be given a copy of the license with your receipt. This is part of the licensing purchase process.
