    Staff and Student License Pricelists

In order to purchase licensed software, you must make your purchase in person with photo ID and proof of acceptance/admission, enrollment or employment at the University of Alberta. The MicroStore can only sell licensed software to its own students and staff. Students and staff of other institutions must make their purchases of licensed software at their home institutions.

Note: student and staff licenses cannot be purchased, or paid for, by a department. For department licences: Click here.

This software is for personal, single user, use only. It cannot be used by, nor bought for, anyone other than the student or staff member making the purchase.

    What is Licensed Software?

Licensed software is a bit different than regular software purchases. Let's say that you purchase a licensed copy of Microsoft Office. What is really happening is that your purchase is actually part of a bulk or volume purchase set up by the MicroStore and other educational resellers across the country to buy thousands of copies of Microsoft Office from Microsoft. With buying so many copies, there is a big volume discount, and the MicroStore passes these volume discounts along to our students and staff. That is why the prices for these student and staff licenses are such an amazing deal, and why they are only available at your home institution educational reseller, like the MicroStore.

When you buy licensed software, unlike off the shelf software, you are required to fill out a form to complete your purchase and register you as the owner of the license. It takes five minutes, and you will be given a copy of the license with your receipt. This is part of the licensing purchase process.

If you have any questions about licensed software, please stop into the store, or contact us directly by email.
